FAQs
What accessories do I need for a hot tub?
Some basic accessories to help make hot tub maintenance simple include:
- A thermal cover and steps (included with your hot tub purchase at Direct Hot Tubs)
- Water treatment (sanitiser, test strips and pH balancing chemicals)
For more convenience you may want to invest in additional products such as:
- A cover lifter (to keep cover clean and make lifting easy)
- A heat pump (to reduce running costs and improve efficiency)
- A spa vacuum or surface skimmer
- Additional cleaning products for detail cleaning (cover cleaner, waterline cleaner etc.)
To keep your hot tub clean and safe, you don't need to spend a lot all at once. Our cleaners and sanitisers start at just £10.99 for 1kg (chlorine granules) which provides around three to five months of use for a 800L, 5 seat hot tub. If you'd like to know more about chemical costs and running costs, you can get in touch with our team, or visit our articles section for more detailed info.
What Accessories will help me reduce running costs?
A combination of heat loss prevention and efficient heating is the best way to reduce running costs for your hot tub. Installing a heat pump can significantly reduce running costs as heat pumps work by moving heat, rather than generating it. Insulated covers, floating thermal covers and full thermal spa covers also help to keep heat in.
By far the most important accessory for reducing running costs is an insulated, thermal cover.
I didn't buy my hot tub from you originally, will your accessories still be suitable?
Most of the products in our hot tub accessories range can be used on a wide range of spas, even if not purchased from us originally. While products such as cleaning gadgets, cover lifters, steps, hand rails and even hot tub heat pumps will be suitable for most outdoor hot tubs, other products such as our thermal covers are designed to fit specific products in our range. If you are unsure if a product will be suitable for your home hot tub, we are happy to advise, even if you didn't place your original order with us!
How often should I clean my hot tub?
Basic cleaning should be done weekly, with deeper cleaning carried out every few months. Using the right tools makes this process quicker and more effective.
Do I need a cover lifter?
A cover lifter is not essential, but it makes removing and replacing your cover much easier and helps prolong the life of the cover by reducing strain and damage.
